Millennials stand out for their technology use, but older generations also embrace digital life

When you think of the Millennial generation, you think digital, but surprisingly older generations are following suit. While nearly everyone has a smartphone, with Millennials in the lead at 92% of ownership, Generation Xer’s take a close second with 85% of ownership, followed by Baby Boomers with 67% ownership and the Silent Generation with 30% ownership. Looking at tablets, the most shocking statistic is that Generation Xer’s are ahead of Millennials when it comes to owning a tablet; 64% compared on 54%.

Touching on social media, another startling statistic, is that while Millennials remain the largest, Generation Xer’s has risen by 11% over the course of several years along with Baby Boomer’s at 16%.

In addition to the acceptance of new technologies, the generations also differ in their overall views of the general impact of the internet. Regardless of the generation, a large majority believe the internet has been good for them personally. As far as a societal impact, generations believe the internet is less positive then it was a few year ago.
