21 Apr Have You Heard of Quibi?
Have you heard of Quibi? Quibi, short for quick-bites, is a new mobile streaming platform that launched earlier this month. Programs are 10-minutes or less, meaning you can watch an entire ‘season’ in less than a couple of hours. Geared toward anyone who has a mobile phone, Quibi was developed to provide programming to people throughout the day when a 10-minute break was needed.
At the launch, there are 30 programs available and the plan is to release 175 new original shows and 8,500 quick bites of content, which will include scripted, unscripted, and daily news. In a press release, Quibi shares that the platform will release over 25 new episodes each day. There are a variety of programs from talk to drama, murder mystery to news, comedy to lifestyle. Hollywood stars such as Jennifer Lopez, Kristen Bell, Chance the Rapper, Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner, Tony Hale and Queen Latifah either make appearances or have on-going roles in programs.
Quibi airs non-skippable ads that are six, ten or 15 seconds long before each of its episodes, with each advertiser (or sponsor) exclusive to that episode. To avoid ad clutter, Quibi has limited its number of sponsors to 10 companies (with multiple brands) for the first year. And Quibi is not accepting any additional sponsors for its first year. The sponsors include AB InBev, Discovery, General Mills, Google, Pepsi, Procter & Gamble, Progressive, Taco Bell, T-Mobile and Walmart are the launch. Currently political ads are not being accepted.
Through April 30, you can try Quibi for free for 90-days. After that the monthly subscription is $4.99 or $7.99 for the ‘ad free’ version.
